Patricia Herman, ND, PhD, is a Senior Behavioral Scientist at the RAND Corporation and Co-Director of the RAND Research Across Complementary and Integrative Health Institutions (REACH) Center, a collaboration supporting research in complementary and integrative health (CIH) professions. Her research centers on health economics and innovative care models, with particular expertise in the economics of complementary and integrative health practices.

Dr. Herman is an NIH/NCCIH-supported methodologist, resource economist, and licensed naturopathic doctor with a PhD in Psychology focusing on research methods. Over more than 40 years, she has conducted policy and cost-effectiveness analyses across multiple healthcare domains. She has been instrumental in advancing discussions around whole health and whole person health concepts and was invited to deliver the Stephen E. Straus Distinguished Lecture in the Science of Complementary Therapies at the NCCIH 25th Anniversary Celebration, where she presented on “The Economic Impact of Whole Person Health.”

She received her Naturopathic Medicine degree from Bastyr University in 2003 and practiced for five years at Sierra Tucson, an inpatient facility treating addiction and chronic pain, before transitioning fully into research. Dr. Herman has published 143 articles in peer-reviewed journals and 23 reports, including 3 books.
