Dr. Kent L. Thornburg is a renowned expert in developmental origins of health and disease, with a focus on how nutrition impacts pregnancy and long-term health outcomes. He held the M. Lowell Edwards Chair of Cardiovascular Research and was a Professor of Medicine at the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) for 20 years. He also served as the Interim Director of the Knight Cardiovascular Institute and as the founding director of the OHSU Bob and Charlee Moore Institute for Nutrition & Wellness.

Dr. Thornburg has made significant contributions to the fields of epigenetics, cardiovascular health, and maternal nutrition, and regularly advises major organizations like the NIH, American Heart Association, and the Preeclampsia Foundation. Among his honors is the Agnes Higgins Award from the March of Dimes for his work in improving nutrition for women. He recently co-chaired the NIH’s strategic conference on the genetic and epigenetic underpinnings of child health and currently chairs the External Scientific Board overseeing the NIH’s ECHO program.
