Bio
Michael D. Levin, B.A., is a seasoned professional in the field of quality assurance and R&D for natural products, medical food, drugs, and dietary supplements (DS). After investing 23 years in pharma, medical devices and pharmacy services, he served as a VP/COO for professional branded DS company and and as President/COO for a dietary ingredient (DI) manufacturer.
He founded Health Business Strategies LLC in 2002 to provide executive management consulting services to the integrative medicine, pharmaceutical, and natural products industries. Levin’s focus areas include business development, regulatory compliance, and quality assurance.
His clients have included hospital systems, ingredient suppliers, supplement manufacturers, technology firms, group purchasing organizations, drug manufacturers, private equity firms, and attorneys. His international experience spans the US, Japan, Asia, Canada, the Middle East, and Europe.
In 2006, Levin conceived and created the first Dietary Supplement Formulary Committee in North American Cancer Multi-Hospital System (CTCA), a patient safety initiative. Levin contributed significantly to the Botanical Adulterants Prevention Program (BAPP), which focuses on detection and removal of irreparably adulterated botanical ingredients. He was primary author of the “BAPP Best Practices Standardized Operating Procedure (SOP) for the Disposal/Destruction of Irreparably Defective Articles (IDAs)”. This is a voluntary industry initiative to protect consumer safety by removing adulterated ingredients and products from global commerce.
It helps to ensure that the promise of safe and natural products is preserved. It is a uniquely important tool, to solve the growing global problem of adulterated raw materials while to fiercely supporting quality leadership in the industry.
