He was one of the first licensed naturopathic doctors to practice in North Carolina, and co-founded the North Carolina Association of Naturopathic Physicians (NCANP). He and wife, Karen, founded Mountain Peak Nutritionals (MPN) in 1996, which specializes in Condition Specific Formulas® for healthcare professionals. His philosophy that made MPN successful and its products sought after by health professionals has always been “To create the highest quality nutritional supplements by combining the most pure, bioavailable, and clinically proven ingredients into formulas that address specific body conditions.” In 2021, after 24 years operating MPN, he and his wife, Karen, retired and passed the legacy of MPN on to Grant and Maureen Bergstrom of GMB Enterprises, Inc. Although he ‘retired,’ he continues to work with MPN as their formulator, using his knowledge and wisdom from over 35 years of experience as a doctor and formulator.
Dr. Massey has taught clinical nutrition, homeopathy, and mind-body medicine at NUNM and at the Naturopathic Medicine Institute’s (NMI) Vital Gathering. Since 2012, he supported, cultivated and taught at the annual vitalist naturopathic medicine Revival and Revitalist gatherings in the Pacific Northwest. He has also supported the Foundations of Naturopathic Medicine Institute’s seminal textbook on naturopathic medicine which will debut its 30 chapter Fundamental Principles of Nature Cure ebook – in final layout currently – later in 2024.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1966-1969 achieving the rank of Captain In the Artillery as a Pershing Missile Commander. Later in 1975, he founded Beautiful Day Natural Foods, the first health food store in Durham, NC. He sold it in 1980 to go to NCNM in 1980 to become a physician.
He and Karen have lived in Portland for 25 years, gardening, biking, and passionately advancing naturopathic medicine and health
