New Collaboration Promotes Role of RDNs in Whole Person Health

INM is strengthening its commitment to whole person, nutrition-forward health care through a partnership with Dietitians in Integrative and Functional Medicine (DIFM), a dietetic practice group of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

The collaboration will highlight the potential of underutilized integrative and functional registered dietitian nutritionists (RDNs) in supporting a whole person health approach that shifts health care from symptom management to root-cause solutions.

DIFM joins an emerging interprofessional coalition in INM’s Whole Person Health Action Network, which aims to align interprofessional messaging around whole person health with a focus on the consumer, all while increasing the visibility of licensed whole health capable providers.

INM and DIFM also plan to collaborate on expanding INM’s independent consumer education on evidence-based natural and whole person approaches to health, incorporating integrative and functional RDNs as high-quality subject matter experts and medical editors in upcoming content plans.

Whole person nutrition in practice

DIFM is a professional community of nutrition practitioners dedicated to providing personalized pathways to health and healing. Its members target underlying drivers of health complications by assessing nutrition, lifestyle, genetics, and environment, and leveraging food as medicine.

Shared mission for transforming health care

INM and the Academy’s DIFM are jointly invested in transforming healthcare systems and practices with integrative, nutrition-driven, and person-centered strategies.

“As INM continues to grow, we are committed to building strategic partnerships with professional associations that share our mission of advancing whole person health,” says President and CEO Michelle Simon, PhD, ND. “We’re thrilled to take this next step in our collaboration!”

That enthusiasm is echoed by DIFM chair Holly A. Van Poots, RDN, CSP, LD, FAND. “Collaborating with INM aligns seamlessly with DIFM’s vision, mission, and strategic goals,” she says. “Partnering creates an opportunity to amplify our impact and advance a shared commitment to optimal health and healing for all through holistic, person-centered care.”
