#RepostSave @michellejjacobs with @repostsaveapp ・・・ Happy Naturopathic Medicine Week! To celebrate, I wanted to share a little bit about why I chose to become a Naturopathic doctor and why I LOVE naturopathic medicine. I was originally headed down the conventional medical path, until I became extremely sick. In pain daily, missing classes, unhappy and unable to find answers. This led me to seeing a naturopathic doctor in Michigan, who took the time to hear my story and come up with an individualized plan for me. Within a couple months, I was symptom free and feeling better than ever. A big portion of my treatment plan was using food as medicine. I learned SO MUCH about the healing power of food. I realized our bodies have an incredible capacity to heal themselves when given the proper support. Working WITH our body’s innate ability to heal can create more vibrant health than trying to overpower pathology with drugs. We are incredibly complex beings and Naturopathic Doctors don’t just treat symptoms, we find the root cause of dis-ease and treat the mind, body and spirit. This approach also empowers patients to become an active player and take control of their own health. Evidence based treatment options like clinical nutrition, botanical medicine, homeopathy, physical medicine, and lifestyle medicine gives naturopathic doctors more options before considering pharmaceutical therapies. This is individualized medicine. This is true HEALTH-care. Long story short, I chose to pursue naturopathic medicine because I have seen it work. For me, my family, and countless patients in our clinic at @bastyruniversity

#RepostSave @plantsandbalance with @repostsaveapp ・・・ F’ING THRILLED because it’s naturopathic medicine week!!! “Why did you choose ND over MD/DO?” is a common & frequent question I get asked. Well.. My answer is always effortless but also more abstract & complex. Although, if I were to really break it down, here’s why:⠀ ⠀ Even though I grew up in an environment of allopathic professionals, I didn’t grow up wanting to be a physician. My love for healthcare developed as a pre-med, studying cellular & molecular biology. Once I started scribing at a hospital was when I knew that I wanted something *more*. I wanted to be part of a progressive + revolutionary medicine that was totally & 100% patient centered. I wanted to touch someone’s life in a way that was more energetic & physical. I wanted to be part of a healthcare model that viewed patients as more than set of signs & symptoms. I wanted to change the current spectrum of prescriptive rights that have perpetuated drug addictions (hello, opioid crisis!). That didn’t sit well with me. I did not vibe with that shit. & I knew.. I just knew… intuitively, that even DO school wouldn’t satisfy my craving to change the system. ⠀ ⠀ When I heard that there was a different option – a niche – I veered there. Naturopathy, in itself and by its truest meaning, sees a person in their ENTIRE form – mental, emotional + physical – “holistic,” if you will. Naturopathic medicine stimulates that inner being – that vital force – to ensure healing. HEALING.. a word I don’t use lightly because healing happens with interventions outside of chemical compounds. Healing starts from within… with food, exercise, sunlight, laughter, water.. basic human needs to thrive AND survive. ⠀ ⠀ That’s why I “chose” naturopathic medicine. Although, in almost every single aspect of my journey thus far, I argue that it chose me. ✨🙏🏼❤️ __
